Selection criteria for the food vehicle in Too Yum

Based on the staple dietary consumption of the low to middle income population groups in Southern Africa, pre-cooked maize and soya bean is the preferred vehicle, blended at a ratio of 60% maize and 40% soya bean. Soya bean has a high protein value, dietary fibre and isoflavonoids.

Maize flour balances the cereal flour blend with specific ratios of carbohydrates, protein, fats, and fibre.

The suggested per-serving portion (based on age and gender) will address the imbalance of nutrient deficiencies in the various age groups.
